Structural Steel, Kamloops
Why structural steel work in Kamloops
Structural steel packages fabricated and installed from our C.W.B. certified Burnaby shop: beams, columns, frames, canopies, stair towers, mezzanines, and miscellaneous steel.
Kamloops is our anchor city in the BC Interior, and the project that made it so was structural: the stair scope we fabricated and installed for Interior Health at Royal Inland Hospital. That job proved the delivery model we now run for all Kamloops structural steel, complete fabrication and finishing at our C.W.B. certified Burnaby shop, then a 3.5 hour run up the Coquihalla with finished assemblies, and erection in planned mobilizations rather than repeated small trips. The model suits the scopes Kamloops generates: institutional and commercial steel downtown and at the hospital precinct, mezzanines and equipment frames in the industrial stock around North Kamloops and Brocklehurst, and beam and column packages for hillside custom homes in Sahali, Aberdeen, Juniper Ridge, and Sun Rivers, where benchland lots make steel-over-grade solutions earn their keep. The climate flips the coastal brief. Kamloops is semi-arid at roughly 547 mm of annual precipitation, so corrosion pressure is low, but the design ground snow load is higher than the coast at around 2.4 kPa, summer heat and intense UV punish coloured finishes, and wide day-to-night temperature swings mean long exterior steel runs need thermal-movement detailing that coastal projects skip. Seismic demand in the Interior zone is lower than Vancouver, but connections are still detailed and welded to CSA W47.1. City of Kamloops permits apply to structural work, and we confirm scope with the building department before fabrication starts.
Kamloops is our anchor city in the BC Interior. We fabricate at our Burnaby shop and run completed assemblies up the Coquihalla (Highway 5) to Kamloops sites, a model that suits the larger institutional, commercial, and custom-residential scopes the city generates. Our reference project here is the stair fabrication and installation we delivered for Interior Health at Royal Inland Hospital. Kamloops sits at the confluence of the North and South Thompson rivers in a semi-arid valley: hot dry summers above 35°C, intense UV, low annual precipitation, and wide day-to-night temperature swings. Those conditions change the metalwork brief, UV-stable powder coat over salt-driven galvanizing logic, and thermal-movement detailing on long steel runs that you don't worry about on the coast.
