Glass railings do one job on a Kamloops view lot: get out of the way. On the Sahali and Aberdeen benches and in Sun Rivers, where the draw is the Thompson valley, semi-frameless and frameless glass guards keep the view unbroken on decks, stairs, and balconies. We fabricate the steel posts, base shoe, and hardware at our Burnaby shop and install in Kamloops as a planned trip. The dry Interior climate is kind to glass railing hardware, the salt-air corrosion that pushes coastal projects to 316 stainless is not a factor here, so standard stainless or powder-coated steel posts perform well. What does matter is UV-stable finish on the metal and clean, thermally-detailed connections on long exterior runs that bake in the summer sun.
Kamloops is our anchor city in the BC Interior. We fabricate at our Burnaby shop and run completed assemblies up the Coquihalla (Highway 5) to Kamloops sites, a model that suits the larger institutional, commercial, and custom-residential scopes the city generates. Our reference project here is the stair fabrication and installation we delivered for Interior Health at Royal Inland Hospital. Kamloops sits at the confluence of the North and South Thompson rivers in a semi-arid valley: hot dry summers above 35°C, intense UV, low annual precipitation, and wide day-to-night temperature swings. Those conditions change the metalwork brief, UV-stable powder coat over salt-driven galvanizing logic, and thermal-movement detailing on long steel runs that you don't worry about on the coast.

Design snow load for Kamloops is roughly 2.4 kPa ground. Coastal exposure is none. Interior seismic zone, lower demand than the coast, but connections still detailed per CSA W47.1. These are the numbers the engineer pulls when sizing steel for a glass railings here.

City of Kamloops requires building permits for new staircases, structural modifications, and load-bearing guardrail work. Confirm scope with the Kamloops building department before fabrication.

Process
1. Site visit and measurement. Measurements, mounting condition review, glass panel layout planning.
2. Engineering for load. Glass panel thickness and hardware spec sized for guard loads per BC Building Code.
3. Shop drawings. Panel layout, post placement, hardware schedule, finish details.
4. Fabrication. Steel posts and top rails fabricated at our Burnaby shop. Glass panels templated and ordered from local tempered-glass fabricators.
5. Finishing. Hot-dip galvanizing + powder coat on exterior steel. Brushed or mirror stainless on hardware per spec.
6. Installation. Post installation, glass panel setting, hardware tightening, and final code-compliance check (1,070 mm residential / 1,100 mm commercial).
